Sweavan brings a robust blend of educational and professional experience to CBCC, making him a valuable member of the Board. He graduated from University of Windsor with a
Master of Social Work, and Master of Science in Human Resources Development from the University of the West Indies, providing him with a strong academic foundation. Also, Sweavan’s professional journey is marked by significant roles and achievements. He has served in the capacity of a recruitment consultant, and Adjunct Lecturer in Behavioural Sciences at Northern Caribbean University. He has enjoys fostering the development of youth and takes great pride in being an agent of change for youth advancement; affording him the Governor General’ Award for youth development and leadership.
During his private practice as a Psychotherapist and years in management, he has established himself as a respected professional and trustworthy presence in the Criminal Justice System by always putting the best interests of staff and clients at the forefront of his decision making. Also, he prioritizes the importance and value of being there for each other and helping the team. As a relationship builder who prides himself in the support, we lend to each other every day to meet our priorities, and establishes relationships centered on trust, reliability, and accountability. Furthermore, his ability to collaborate is one of his strengths, as he ensures he understands the work of other projects and committees to create integrated pathways to work together.
As a manager in Youth Justice Probation Services, he is all about the day-to-day operational connections in his various workplace settings with staff, peers, clients and youth justice partners. His advocacy for diversity, inclusion, equity and dealing with complex issues affecting the vulnerable is demonstrated through his steadfast support, provided in the most value-added and thoughtful ways aligned with the situation presented.
As a devoted family-oriented individual who enjoys the outdoors and travelling, is equally committed to continue to make meaningful, rewarding differences to CBCC and it’s operations, and continue to challenge himself both personally and professionally.
